Local Mad Man was formed in 2007, the brainchild of vocalist Chris and guitarist Greg, in deepest darkest SE London. The early years saw the band play numerous gigs on both the punk and metal circuits, focusing on the squat and free party scenes in and around London as well as supporting the likes of Discharge and ENT. A number of drummers came and went but pretty much played without a bassist until the “hiatus” in 2012. At this time, Chris joined “No Last Words” with Güdz, a songwriting partnership that would crack on until the present day.
After 2 years, that band reached its end and Greg wanted to restart Local Mad Man again; so the 3 joined forces, with Greg switching to bass duties, playing a set comprised of half NLW songs and a selection of Madman “classics”. The lineup was completed by former “Denounce” drummer Dave Felstead. The EP “I’ve Had Enough” was recorded in Greg’s old print warehouse and many gigs were played. These were very happy times. However, the opportunity of a lifetime saw Dave leave the band and Greg made the commute a bit difficult by moving to America, so a new lineup was cobbled together.
Chris found himself at the bar with Pies from Croydon legends “The K.A.D.T.”, which led to him joining on bass, whilst Güdz tapped up an old contact, James Brown, to play drums. Accordingly, the second EP “Amongst the Thieves and Liars” was released via Back From The Dead records in 2017.
2018 sees a new man behind the drums and as many gigs as can be played. With a batch of new songs waiting to be aired, combined with a renewed sense of eagerness, Local Mad Man are up for it. Give us a gig, have a beer with us, or both!
